Christmas holidays in Auxerre
Discover the charm of Auxerre as a couple or as a family
In order to spend your winter holidays in complete serenity, our hotel, the Best Western Signature Collection Hôtel Le Maxime Auxerre, has rooms adapted to your needs: as a couple with a superior room or as a family with a family room, you will find all the necessary comfort to spend pleasant moments together.
The privileged location of our hotel facing the Yonne River in the heart of Auxerre offers you an ideal geographical situation to explore the city and its surroundings.
Stroll through the streets of the old town
Only a few steps from our hotel is the historic centre of Auxerre, which is immediately charming with its old timber-framed houses.
We advise you to visit the Rue de l'Yonne, the Place Charles Lepère for their old buildings and to have a look at the magnificent "Art Nouveau" building housing the Post Office on the Place Charles Surugue.
A visit that promises to be even more magical in the evening with the beautiful Christmas illuminations.
Visit historical sites
Auxerre has several magnificent religious buildings.
While walking through the streets of the city centre, you can admire the Saint-Etienne cathedral, less than 300 metres from our hotel. Listed as a historical monument since 1840, this masterpiece of Gothic art features magnificent stained glass windows.
Just as close is the famous Saint-Germain Abbey. Founded in the 5th century and rebuilt in the Carolingian era, it has lost none of its splendour with its Gothic architecture. The Saint-Germain Museum of Art and History is located on three levels and covers several periods. A must-see place to discover the history of Auxerre and its region!
Stroll through the aisles of the Christmas market
On 4 and 5 December, this pretty traditional market in the neighbouring town of Monéteau will plunge you into the Christmas spirit with its decorations and 73 chalets on the Place de l'Église. It's the perfect opportunity to discover local specialities such as mulled wine, gingerbread and honey. You will also be able to find great ideas for Christmas gifts thanks to the shopkeepers and craftsmen present on site.
