Designed by the Italian architect Sebastanio Serlio, the Château d'Ancy-le-Franc is a palace of the Italian Renaissance. Its construction was ordered by King François I in the 16th century and constitutes an architectural turning point in this period.
The castle has a sober and elegant architecture and has four equal wings with square pavilions. The castle also has an attractive inner courtyard.

Listed as a historical monument, the castle houses one of the largest collections of wall paintings (16th and 17th centuries) in France.
